Based on friendship and noble values, the film traces how Rajinikanth is too busy with his career to spend any time with his friend. The storyline has developed sensitively and realistically portrays the situations that are likely to arise between any set of friends. Rajinikanth adds his own magical touch to the role, which is bound to enable all viewers to identify with the characters of the films. The relationship that is portrayed between Rajinikanth and Pasupathy is also likely to be reminiscent of friendship between Lord Krishna and Sudama.

The film has an impressive cast, comprising Nayanthara, Pasupathy, Meena and Vadivellu, skillfully essaying their respective roles along with superstar Rajinikanth. The lilting soundtrack has been composed by G.V.Prakash Kumar. The Tamil version of this bilingual is a joint production of MS Kavithalaya and Seven Arts Films while the Telugu version titled Kathanayakadu is a joint production of Vyjayanthi Movies and Seven Arts Films.
