“Most of the time people feel I am a very serious man, but it’s not true, I have my own style of talking and commenting upon things that can come up just amid any serious environment,” quips Shergill.
Talking of his role in A Wednesday Shergill says, “I play the role of an ATS officer, who is a part of this team trying to crack a case on a particular Wednesday, when one person holds the entire city for ransom, and how this particular event affects general public. The film is not only a thriller but it also has a suspense element to it.”
Shergill started his career with a video album, later he went on to do a variety of roles, from a rebellious student in Mohabbatein, an army officer in Yahaan, to a villain in Eklavya. “When I started my career, I just prayed to God that people accept me as an actor, and today I want to grow more as an actor,” says Shergill, who has always made a conscious effort to groom as an actor. So what does he think of while choosing a script?
“When I read a script, I look at it as a whole. It must interest me and at the same time it must deliver what it aims to, like if it is a comedy it must sound humorous,” says the actor.
“It gives immense pleasure to know that your work is appreciated; I have been getting feedback from people in the industry who have seen my role in A Wednesday, no body expected me to do this kind of a role, and they were surprised to see me play this character of Arif Khan,” says Shergill who would be seen along with Naseeruddin Shah and Anupam Kher in the film.
“I have known Naseerbhai for quite some time now and my assosiation with Khersahab has been since the time of Mohabattien, so there was a good comfort level amongst us. Besides, they have always loved me as a person thus the rapport between us was quite homely,” says Shergill, who is currently working on his upcoming films Shoebite, Mumbai Cutting, Bachelors Party, Flat, and another Punjabi film. Well with so much on his plate, all we wish him is luck and hope his film gets in some good news at the box-office too.
