Launch:
I never dreamed that I would make my debut in Hindi films with Mithun Chakrborty playing my father. Yes in Don Muthuswami I play Mithun’s daughter, Ranjana. I am this very sweet and innocent girl who is in awe of her father. Rohit Roy plays my love interest in the film which is a complete laugh riot.
Casting coup:
Director Ashim Samanta saw my photographs and called me for an audition. I was asked to enact a scene with Rohit to see how we looked as a couple. After four days I got a call from him saying that I was doing the film. I could not believe it!
Stepping stone:
I am an Assamese brought up in Kolkata, and always wanted to become an actress. I started modeling while still in college. I have done almost 500 ads and two Bengali films. When I came to Mumbai a year back I took lessons in dancing and private classes in acting to groom myself for tinsel town.
First shot:
I shall always remember my first day of shooting which was at Future Studio. I was nervous as the shoot was with Mithunda. It was an emotional scene in which I confess something I have done to him. But he quickly put me at ease and the shot was okayed in the first take! Later he told me that amongst the newcomers he had seen, I was one of the finest actors.
Stumbling block:
Ihad to start from zero when I landed in Mumbai, as I did not know a single person or anything about the film industry. It was a struggle to find my way around, but my determination to make it that kept me going. I knew I was the perfect Bollywood material.
Lesson learnt:
I have realized that one should be nice to people because then everyone will be nice to you!
Matinee idol:
Madhubala is my all time favourite because people say that I look a lot like her. As an actor Sridevi will always be on the top rung for me. She is one who can fit into any role.
Future plans:
Ihave just signed Neeraj Pathak’s film with Bobby Deol. It is romantic comedy and we start shooting in June. After this love triangle I hope my next film is a solo lead!
