Is it splitsville? Madonna says no

As speculation intensifies about a possible split between pop diva Madonna and her husband Guy Ritchie, the couple has put on a show of solidarity to tell the world that their seven-year marriage is back on track.

The couple stepped out hand-in-hand as they went for a romantic dinner at a restaurant in New York on Wednesday. The public display of unity came hours after Madonna instructed her publicist to release a statement to the media, dismissing reports that their marriage is on the rocks.

"Madonna's husband Guy arrived in New York last night to be with his wife and family (not in a last-ditch attempt to save his marriage which does not need saving). There are no plans for Madonna and Guy to divorce," the Daily Mail quoted the statement released by Liz Rosenberg as saying.

The statement has also dismissed a report in an American magazine that the singer was having a relationship with baseball star Alex Rodriguez.

A source also told the British newspaper that the couple are trying to sort out their differences for the sake of the children and talk of divorce is premature. "The main issue is what Madonna sees at the complete lack of support Guy has shown for her in all her recent projects."

The unnamed source added: "This has been an ongoing argument but came to a head over the adoption. Madonna was feeling the heat and Guy wasn't there for her. It culminated in the awful scenario at the Cannes film festival when Madonna forced him to be there for her documentary about Malawi. But once there, they could barely disguise their contempt for one another."
