In a one on one talk with Ashok Kumar of Expressindia.com Koel reveals how she was born to be part of the showbiz.
You were part of the critically acclaimed Mixed Doubles. How does it feel being part of an offbeat film dealing with ‘wife swapping’?
It was not an alien concept at the first place. I have done such roles earlier too. For me it’s necessary that the subject of the film I am part of is appealing to me. I am not a kind of the person who would be interested in doing some ‘run of the mill’ kind of stuff.
How do you rate your film career so far?
Well, I am exactly where I wanted to be. I have earned respect in the field with whatever work I have attempted so far. I am doing the kind of films, which I always wanted to and did not go on a signing spree and am known for particular roles that I have performed till date.
Any character, which you have not played so far (in a film) but would like to (play) in future?
(Smiles) I would like to play the role of Cleopatra, a femme fatale.
Do you agree with the presence of casting couch in the show business?
Of course, it does exist. But it cannot be one sided as they say it takes two hands to clap. After all it takes two to tango.
When did you first think of getting into films?
When I came out of my mother’s womb. (Smiles) Since my childhood, I have been thinking of getting into movies.
Who is your favourite actor during childhood and why?
Amitabh Bachchan. Because he is such a marvellous actor. He can perform any role and play any character with excellence. There is no one who has gone beyond his acting prowess.
Do you have any regrets relating to your decisions in your professional life?
I don’t have any regrets. To be honest when you see in retrospect you may find faults with some of your decisions, but then that’s the way to learn and grow in life. You make certain choices about which you later on feel you should have avoided. Sometimes I feel I continue to learn from those choices.
If not into movies where else you would be?
Perhaps, I would be a skydiving instructor
