Ajay’s directorial debut U Me Aur Hum is going to hit the screens in April. What is the general atmosphere at home? Are you apprehensive since it is also being made under your home banner of Devgan Films?
The atmosphere at home is pretty busy with all of us doing the same chores that we have been doing for years. I guess we will continue the same way even after April 11 when U Me Aur Hum hits the screens all over.

You have worked with many directors in your career, so how different was Ajay as an administrator?
Ajay is very different as a director. He has a unique style. He knew exactly what he wanted and had clear thoughts in terms of requirements for the film. I feel he is really going to set great standards in filmmaking in his own way.

You were seen together in Ishq, Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha, Hulchul, Gundaraaj, Dil Kya Kare, Raju Chacha and now there is U Me Aur Hum? What was the equation then and now?
Actually, it’s pretty much the same as before but of course the only difference now is that we are married to each other (laughs)

So as professionals, who is more critical when it comes to work?
I think both us are to an extent as far as each other’s work is concerned. But Ajay is more critical about his own work. It is the same with me as well.

U Me Aur Hum was shot on a ship. It must have been an enjoyable experience.
Yes, it was fun but it was also a lot of hard work. It was really disconcerting to see other people enjoying the cruise while we were working our butts off. (laughs) But it was great fun anyway as it was a different kind of experience being on board a huge ship.

Ajay and you have even sported a new look in the film
And don’t we look good? The credit for this goes to Ajay as he personally supervised everything and worked with Mallika, the make-up artist and Brian, the hair stylist. Ajay wanted something different as far as ‘look’ was concerned and at the same time it had to look appealing. I think the makeover has worked in our favour.

The film also has Divya Dutta, Sumeet Raghavan, Karan Khanna and Isha Sharvani who are relatively new. Do you think they have done justice to their characters?
Divya, Sumeet, Karan and Isha, are all professionals. They have worked very hard and we are happy with their work. Really, there is no room for complaints.

Ajay and you have already begun shooting for Toonpur Ka Superhero where you play yourselves along with 50 animated characters. What was it like?
We haven’t started the shooting of Toonpur … as yet. When it starts I’ll let you know.

You must be excited to be back with your old gang of friends now that you are doing Karan Johar’s Mr Khan with Shah Rukh Khan.
Well actually nothing is final as yet. We are in talks. I will hear the script before I decide.

Your name was announced for Rajkumar Hirani’s Idiots. But there are speculations that Kareena Kapoor is to do the film now.
Raju Hirani did approach me for the film and I even liked the script. But I felt I did not suit the role. To be fair to him, I told him that as I respect him a lot as a director. I have seen his films and enjoyed them immensely. I promised to work with him on a different project in the future. I have no idea who has been cast in that role, really.

Then have you signed on any more films?
No, not right now.

The music launch of U Me Aur Hum was the first occasion on which you brought your little adorable daughter Nysa in public. Did she enjoy the adulation and attention?
No, Nysa did not like adulation and attention. Actually she was taken aback looking at the big gathering. She is anyways too small to know what was happening and so she started crying. I guess it is genetic. (laughs)

Like every daughter, she seems to be papa’s pet considering she was hovering around Ajay all the time.
That she is. Yes, she is definitely papa’s darling.

Coming back to films, which work of Ajay’s do you like the most?
I liked him in Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha and Company. Both the films had him in diverse roles and brought out the best in him.

On February 24, you completed nine years of marriage. How has the journey been?
The journey has been like a flash, literally. It feels like it has been a moment in time and I am hoping the next nine years will pass by in the same manner.
