The model-turned-actress, who has been reportedly offered Sir Ben Kingsley's film on the Taj Mahal, said moving to Hollywood would mean starting her career anew.
"I have worked very hard to build my name here and I'm happy with the kind of work that I'm doing," Basu said at an event held in Mumbai. "In Hollywood, I have to start from scratch."
"Here people know my talent and have accepted me but I have to prove myself in the West and they have to accept me too."
Basu, 29, has signed art house movies like Pankh and is also a part of Rituparno Ghosh's Bengali film Sob Choritro Kalponik in which she trades in her glitzy outfits for saris.
Media reports suggest she has also signed Ghosh's next project Draupadi, based on a character from the epic Mahabharata.
"I want to balance my work now by doing both art house films and commercial movies," she said. "As an actor it is good to be versatile and showcase your talent."
