Go into the core

I have gone through your editorial in issue dated April 11-17 and I agree with you that “the 3000 crore figure being touted as the public and private investments in the next year, even if it is a little exaggerated, is impressive considering that the industry status has been around for less than a decade.”

I read projections given by Pricewater CooperHouse, which in my opinion were exaggerated. The common public when they read the heading entertainment and media, they feel the film industry is doing roaring business. The actual picture of the film industry is quite opposite. I feel such big houses should not mix up entertainment (in the eyes of public only film industry). As per their report entertainment includes T.V., films, print media, radio, music, live entertainment, out of home advertisement, internet etc. The total projection was given at Rs.43,700 crores. The common public as well as the Government feels that the film industry is doing tremendous business.

Many a times we have made representations to the Government, that the production, distribution and exhibition sector are struggling for survival to which they have been saying “the industry is doing tremendous business as per media report. Why do you need concession for survival.”

May I request the government to go into the core of the matter and ascertain for itself what is true and what is false.
