Flying High
Sonal Sehgal, who shot to fame with the Star Plus Weekly Sara Aakash is eagerly awaiting the release of Radio

Launch Vehicle
Radio is a contemporary love story, without the quintessential hero, heroine and the other woman. It is a very young, fresh take on relationships. I play Priya, Vivaan’s (Himesh) estranged wife in the film.

Casting Coup
Ishaan Trivedi, the director, called me for a narration when he was looking for a heroine. I was very kicked about doing the film the minute I heard the script. They liked me and things worked out.

Stepping-Stone
I started out by assisting ad filmmaker and director Pradeep Sarkar. After that I did a couple of music videos and then one thing led to another and I shot for a couple of advertisements. When I came to Mumbai for a commercial, I was offered Sara Akash. I haven’t done any acting course because I think to be an actor you need to be perceptive and observant. You have to be a good listener to pick up traits and no acting school can ever teach you that.

First Shot
Though Radio is my first release, I have shot for two films before this, so the first day was pretty chilled-out. It was like just another day at work because by then, I knew a little about films.

Stumbling Block
Actually, I am one of the lucky ones and I feel truly blessed to have made it here because I have no film connections at all. My journey has been exciting because I never wanted to get into films, things just happened and I am here. But the pressures of working in Bollywood are really high. You have to be perfectly presentable at all times. In spite of a 12-hour shift, you are expected to work out. Life is literally like a military boot camp.

Lessons Learnt
You are never settled for life when you are doing films. I have friends who have secured 9 to 5 jobs and well-settled in life but here, once your film is complete, you are back to square one. You don’t have a choice but to start from scratch.

Matinee Idol
I am a huge fan of Nagesh Kukunoor and I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with him in Aashayein. I didn’t watch too many films while growing up so I didn’t idolise anybody in particular. I am really looking forward to working with the current crop of directors like Imtiaz Ali, Vishal Bhardwaj and Anurag Kashyap. I think Ranbir Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor are doing very well for themselves.

Future Projects
I haven’t signed anything new after Radio. I have been promoting Radio for the whole of last week and now I just want the film to release. Once that is done, I want to take off for a vacation. I have Aashayein and Milap Zaveri’s Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai scheduled for release next year.
