




Vinayan’s latest horror movie
Yakshiyum Njaanum is to be directed by hit-making director Vinayan, who had earlier made blockbuster horror-cum-entertainer films like Akashaganga and Vellinakshatram. Yakshiyum Njaanum, which will be scripted by Vinayan as well, will be produced by Rueben Gomez under the banner of R.G.Productions and will have four youngsters as the key players. Jubil, the son of late actor Rajan P. Dev, will make his debut as the villain while Sajan Madhav, the son of late music director Raveendran will be in charge of the music. The lyrics will be penned by Kaithapram Damodaran Namboothiri. The film will commence shoot soon.
Mammootty in Drona
Mammootty is all set to act once again in a film by hit-maker Shaji Kailas. Drona will be scripted by A.K.Sajan, who makes a perfect combination with Shaji Kailas. It will have as heroines Kaniha and Navya Nair and will also have in the cast Manoj.K.Jayan, Thilakan, Bala, Irshad, Devan, Vijayakumar, Lakshmi Sharma, Manraj etc. To be produced under the banner of Aroma Movie International, the film has as its highlight cinematography by Ekambaran, who had recently gained fame for his work in Kanthasamy. Drona will commence shoot soon and will be released in January 2010.
Sura is Vijay’s 50th film
There has been a lot of buzz generated around Vijay’s 50th film, most of them based on rumours and speculations. Anyway things have finally been decided and Vijay’s golden jubilee film has started rolling off with a song shoot in AVM studios Chennai. The film has S.P.Rajkumar at the helm of affairs as the director. Titled Sura, it has Tamannaah playing the heroine while Dev Gill, who got noted with the Telugu hit Magadheera makes his debut in Tamil in a key role. There are rumours that Sura, produced by Sangili Murugan (who had earlier teamed produced Vijay’s Kathalakku Mariyaadai), is loosely based on the Mohanlal starrer Malayalam hit Chotta Mumbai, directed by Anwar Rasheed. But this is yet to be confirmed. What’s known about Sura is that the film has Vijay playing a fisherman and that it’s to be shot extensively on the coastal areas of Kerala. Meanwhile Vijay’s Vettaikaaran is finished and all set for release. Sura is scheduled to be released in June, 2010.
TN varsity translates Karuna’s literary works into English
Some of the Tamail literary works authored by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi have been translated into English by the Bharathiar University in Coimbatore and are expected to be released in the next two months.
The English department has translated 10 books authored by Karunanidhi and the university is hoping to get them released by President Pratibha Patil in December or in January 2010, Vice-Chancellor C. Swaminathan told reporters here today.
The translated books of 85-year-old Karunanidhi, known for his Tamil literary works as well as film scripts, include Tholkapiapoonga, Kavithai Mazhai Parts I, II and III, Sangha Tamizh, Thenpandi Singam, Anarkali (a one-act play), Parashakti and Manohara.
On the proposed World Tamil Classical Conference from June 23 in Coimbatore, Swaminathan said that the management and principals of affiliated colleges and engineering colleges would meet, under the Chairmanship of Higher Education Minister K. Ponmudi to discuss about the contribution of the Education department. He said a constituent college of the university would start functioning in Coonoor in nearby Nilgiris District from next academic year following an initiative by IT and Communication Minister A. Raja, elected to the Lok Sabha from the hilly district. An initial investment of Rs. three crore would be made for the college coming up on a 10-acre site.
