The fourth IIC Asian Women's Film Festival, organized jointly by International Association of Women in Radio and Television (IAWRT) and India International Centre Asia Project, will be held on March 7 and 8 and have "insights and aspirations" as its theme.
The festival, coinciding with International Women's Day on March 8, will feature short and full-length films from Australia, Japan, Pakistan and the US, besides India.
Recognising the need for a forum that can sustain the form of documentary as well as women's contribution to this form, the festival will showcase films created by women, covering a range of genres and expressive styles.
"The aim of the festival is to open up a space for debates on creative processes and concerns," says Jai Chandiram, managing trustee of the IAWRT, an organisation of women working in electronic and allied media.
Anupama Srinivasan's film Everyday, which is a reflection on relationships, will open the festival while the closing movie will be Ayodhya Gatha by Vani Subramanian, who tries to explore what it means to "belong to a city that has become a symbol of religious intolerance, majoritarian aggression and communal tumult".
Panel discussions exploring new politics of film making and how women are widening the frame for issues concerning themselves will also be held.
