Daughters sing to Annu's tunes

It has been sometime since Bollywood grooved to an Annu Malik song, original or inspired. The music director was instead seen on television talent hunts, playing the Indian version of the rude Simon Cowell. Now, after the disastrous Jaan-E-Mann and Umrao Jaan, Malik is busy — and happy. He is recording a youthful version of the timeless melody Jab Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya for Man Gaye Mughal-e-Azam that will be picturised not on Madhubala but Mallika Sherawat. He is also scoring for Ajay Devgan’s Toonpur Ka Superhero and Mission Istanbul.

But there is one more reason for Malik’s glee: his 17-year-old daughter Anmol is singing for Sherawat in the forthcoming film Ugly Aur Pagly. The tunes are Dad’s. “Anmol has sung a few lines earlier for the younger Aishwarya Rai in Umrao Jaan. But this is the first time she is doing proper playback. My younger daughter Ada is also singing my song in a film.” That’s house music.
