Filmmaker Ravi Chopra has said his upcoming film Banda Yeh Bindaas Hai is an adaptation of Hollywood movie My Cousin Vinny and not a remake.

"I chose it (My Cousin...) because it is the finest comedy I have seen in recent times and I bought the rights," Chopra said in Mumbai. The movie is complete and being readied for a November release.

Chopra said he decided to make a comedy because he wanted to have a change from the recent social dramas he had helmed like Baghban and Babul. ‘Banda...’ stars Govinda, Tabu and Lara Dutta in the lead roles. Chopra said Govinda was best suited for the role of a lawyer who has never entered the court room. It took him six years to get a law degree and suddenly he is entrusted with a murder case.

Chopra said he will start his next film - Pocket Maar - with Amitabh Bachchan in October. The film is a family drama which will depict that crime, no matter how big or small, is a sin.

"Bachchan plays part of the family that is affected by the Pocket Maar. Rest of the cast is being finalised," he said.

Chopra said B R Films has ventured into production on a big scale after several years with a slew of films in pre-production and production stages.

"Rahul Dholakia (of Parzania fame) and debutant Sanjeevan are directing films for B R Films. Both films are slated to go on floors in January-February 2009," he said.

"Dholakia's film is tentatively titled Dosti while Sanjeevan's movie, based on human trafficking, is called Betiyan. In the past, directors like Basu Chaterjee have made films for our banner," he added.

Chopra said he was confident that the 50-year old B R Films banner will pass on to the third generation. His son Abhay has turned director with Kohinoor which will go on the floor in December. Abhay will direct his brother Kapil, who makes his acting debut in the same film.

B R Films is co-producing Heaven on Earth and What's Cooking Stella with Deepa Mehta, he said.

Heaven on Earth, starring Preity Zinta, will release in September, while What's cooking Stella, featuring Lisa Ray and Seema Biswas, will hit theatres in January. It is jointly directed by Deepa and her brother Dilip Mehta. Chopra had earlier distributed Deepa Mehta's Water in India.

BR Films is also working on an animation film Pandav which will depict the childhood of Pandavas and Kauravas in Mahabharat, he said.
