It seems controversy has become synonymous with Bollywood films with the Ashutosh Gowarikar-directed film Jodhaa-Akbar, released on Friday, being the latest in that category.

Rajputs in Rajasthan have blocked the screening of the big budget film, accusing Gowarikar of distorting history. According to them, Jodhaa was the daughter of Udai Singh of Marwar and was married to Salim, Akbar's son.

But the film shows Jodhaa as Akbar's wife and Gowarikar claims he has the backing of historians and a royal family of Rajasthan to prove it.

Madhuri Dixit's comeback film Aaja Nachle, released last year, ran into rough weather following "offending lyrics" in its title song.

There were widespread protests by Dalits over the song with Haryana, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh banning the movie. The producers ultimately had to drop that line from the song following which the ban was revoked.

Last year's blockbuster Om Shanti Om was no different. Lead actor Shah Rukh Khan had to apologise to Manoj Kumar for mimicking the yesteryear star which did not impress the latter.

The Aamir Khan-starrer Mangal Pandey: The Rising got into trouble in 2005 as descendants of the freedom fighter moved the Delhi High Court for portraying him in poor light.

Another film that year - Jo Bole So Nihal - invited protests from Sikhs for misusing their holy slogan (Bole So Nihal).
