What’s your role in Bhoothnath?
It’s a BR Films production directed by Vivek Sharma who previously worked in Shah Rukh’s company’s first film as well. In the movie, I die but continue to reside in a house as a ghost. A family comes in as tenants and a friendship develops between the ghost and a child. It’s a simple, beautiful story.
Shah Rukh Khan is missing from the Bhoothnath promos.
Shah Rukh has a guest appearance in the film and all the trailers are not out. Vivek or BR Films would be better equipped to answer that question.
What’s your equation with Khan now?
Everyday we are being asked about it. People would just love us to say yes. I feel media has over hyped this issue to get some masala. But the truth is that all is well between us.
And when do we get to see Shantaram?
Shantaram’s release got delayed due to the Writer’s Guild Association strike. It will take a while now.
What’s your take on being called an outsider and the whole karmabhoomi-janmabhoomi controversy that rocked Maharashtra recently?
I feel sad about the whole issue. No doubt seven generations of my family have lived in Lucknow, but Mumbai is home now. I have been working there for as long as I can remember, got married, had children and now even they are working there only. So it just feels strange.
Do you feel you have become a soft target in all the recent controversies?
I do, but then celebrities have always been soft targets. I really don’t know if I should be happy or sad about it.
How do you plan to celebrate Abhishek and Aishwarya’s first wedding anniversary?
It’s a special day for us and we’ll be connected to them in Miami where Abhishek is shooting for his film Dostana. We plan to come out with the first look of my forthcoming film Sarkar Raj, the sequel to Sarkar, on that very day. And all of us will witness it together, thanks to video conferencing.
Will we be seeing you on television anytime soon?
I have been speaking to some channels, generating ideas. Let’s see.
How do you like the latest form of cricket, the IPL?
I have always enjoyed cricket and try and watch as many matches as possible. But I find IPL very confusing in terms of who is in what team.
