It was a good year for young talents in Bollywood, who not only made their presence felt in the industry but also ensured success at the Box-Office.

While some made it big at the box-office there were others who failed to impress despite receiving a hyped launchpad.

Imran Khan became the heartthrob this year with his chocolate-looks and natural acting in his debut 'Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Naa' which was directed by debutant Abbas Tyrrewala.

However, Harman Baweja, son of filmmaker Harry Baweja, who was touted to be the next big thing failed to impress audiences with his futuristic sci-fi multi-crore budgeted 'Love Story 2050'.

The film bombed at theatres despite the much hyped chemistry between Priyanka Chopra and Harman. The debutant actor also struggled with constant comparisons to superstar Hritik Roshan in both looks and dancing style.

But clearly the underdog of the year was Farhan Akhtar, who had given films like 'Dil Chahta Hai' and 'Don'.

Farhan made an impressive acting debut with 'Rock On' a film, which will also be remembered for its different from the league story. Shahana Goswami and director Abhishek Kapoor also made their debut with the film, which was a success at the Box Office.

It was also a successful launch pad for Prachi Desai, who is famous for her character 'Bani' in Ekta Kapoor's serial 'Kasam Se.'

Another film which opened to opened to good reviews and critical acclaim and marked the debut of television's blue-eyed boy Rajiv Khandelwal in 'Aamir'. Khandelwal impressed in the low budget film with his character of a man on the run.

Model Sonal Chauhan made her debut opposite Emaran Hashmi in 'Jannat', which was a hit. Chauhan also received rave reviews for her acting.

The pratice of pitting star debutants against each other continued this year too. Last year Deepika was pitted against Sonam and Ranbir Kapoor with their respective films 'Om Shanti Om' and 'Sanwariyaa' releasing on the same day.

This year Aamir Khan went out of his way to promote his nephew Imran Khan's film 'Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Naa' esclipsing Harman Baweja's debut.

The result of two other starlets, who are pitted against each other, is yet to be out.

While model Anushka Sharma's debut with Yash Raj's 'Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi' opposite superstar Shah Rukh Khan lukewarm response from the audiences but the final verdict would be out only after the release of this year's another mega film 'Ghajini'.

South Indian actress Asin Thottumkal is making her Bollywood debut with superstar Aamir Khan in this film. Both the films are vying for audiences attention this month.

It was a lucky year for young directors too, who impressed with their out of the box stories.

First time directors like script-writer turned director Abbas Tyrewala (Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na), Neeraj Pandey (A Wednesday), Abhishek Kapoor (Rock On), Raj Kumar Gupta (Aamir), Kunal Deshmukh (Jannat) and Tarun Mansukhani (Dostana) charted out a new path in Bollywood with their films finding favour with the public. Some of the young directors dealt with subjects like terrorism, match-fixing and homosexuality while others brought a fresh approach to the tried and tested formula stories.

The not so impressive debutants of the year are Mithun Chakroborty's son Mimoh, whose film 'Jimmy' sunk at the box office without any trace but the larger blame can be put on the weak storyline.

Similarly, Anupam Kher and Kirron Kher's son Sikandar Kher did not find much luck at the silver screen with two flops -- 'Woodstock Villa' and 'Summer 2007'. But Kher was noticed for his acting skills despite the fate of the films.

Three young faces were introduced in Kumar Mangat's 'Haal-e-Dil', a box-office disaster. Mangat's daughter Amita Pathak, Nakuul Mehta and Adhyayan, son of actor Shekhar Suman made their debut with the film.

However, Adhyayan is expecting to re-launch his career with Bhatt camp's supernatural thriller 'Raaz-the Mystery Continues' where he has been paired opposite Kangana Ranaut.

Filmmaker Indra Kumar's daughter Shweta Kumar failed to make a mark with her debut opposite singer-turned-actor Himesh Reshamiya in 'Karzzz', which was slammed by critics for being a poor remake of Subhash Ghai's 1980s blockbuster 'Karz'.
