Sri Srimathi Satyabamma
Song picturisation in Spain
ACE actress Vijaya Shantis much-talked about film Sri Srimathi
Satyabamma, being produced under her own banner, Suraj Movies, is progressing
smoothly at various locations in Hyderabad and the unit is scheduled to
leave for Spain in July to shoot the song sequences. The first time combination
of S.V. Krishna Reddy and angry-woman Vijaya Shanti has evoked considerable
interest in the trade and even the media is giving wide coverage to this
project in which Tamil actor Rahman plays the male lead. She was supposed
to celebrate her birthday on the sets of the film but she decided not
to celebrate it this time since she is annoyed with the chief minister
for hiking the power tariff and causing concern to the poor and needy
people of the state.

Instead, on her birthday, the producer-actress, who was filming at Annapoorna
7 acres, spoke about her film and expressed happiness over its progress.
It is progressing very smoothly and we plan to leavre for Spain
soon for the picturisation of the songs. It was nice working with Krishna
Reddy. He is very systematic. The film is an out-an-out entertainer.I
propose to produce films with different subjects, like the present one,
occasionally, she said.
Nagalingam
Smells to attract audiences!
NOW you can smell cinema, exclaims an excited actor-producer-director
Babu Ganesh. Literally, his current film, Nagalingam is going to sprinkle
fragrance in the theatres, while the cinegoers watch roses and jasmines
on the screen! Babu Ganesh commenced the Telugu dubbing work of his film,
Nagalingam, recently.
Speaking to the press, the innovative filmmaker said: To attract
the audience back to theatres, weve to offer something unique. So
I have hit upon the idea of smellies. Why not the audience be treated
to the fragrance while they watch such scenes on the screen. And that
set me thinking. Like Dolby, 3-D and animation, this is also part of a
technological revolution, which I hope will change the course of film
viewing. The smell machines and smock machines have to be operated in
the theatres with a time sense. During the screning of the movie, the
fragrances pervade the theatre five times, at regular intervals. When
we demonstrated this to a select audience, they were thrilled and applauded
in unision. For each print, the experiment will cost about Rs. 20,000.
But it is worth the money. Already, trade enquiries are coming from Hindi
and other languages. As for the subject, it is a triangular love story
involving me, Ravali and Prithvi. In the proceedings, a snake also plays
a major role. For 15 years it waits to take vengeance on the girl, the
heroine. Whether it will succeed in its attempt or not forms the suspense
part. Nina and Jayamala also play stellar roles in this graphics-loaded
special-effects film. With a multi-media unit and an animator, I planned
and executed the special effects myself and it cost me much less than
the big players that offer such services to the film industry. We have
completed the entire shoot including four songs in fifteen days flat.
As for the fragrance-smell, it helps beat the piracy too. We have already
sent details about our innovative work to the Guinness Book of World Records
and to the Limca Book of Records. The Tamil version is due for release
on July 7. The Telugu version is also planned for a July release. Bharat
Babu has writen the dialogues. I must thank my co-producers for the Telugu
version, Mr DVSL, N.V. Prasad and Srinivas Somisetty, who made my job
of making the Telugu version easy.
Raja Ravindra and Babilona are also in the cast. Ch Raj Kumar is the cinematographer.
Presented by Akshya Arts and made under Bala Vighnesh Creations banner,
the film has story, screenplay, music, editing and direction by Babu Ganesh.
Commissioner Narasimha Naidu
Vallarasu in Telugu
TRAX Suresh acquired the Telugu dubbing rights of the Tamil
mega hit, Vallarasu, amidst heavy competition. The Vijayakanth action
flick is now ready for release all over Andhra. Recently, a trailer of
the Telugu version of the film titled Commissioner Narasimha Naidu was
screened for the press in Chennai at the MM Preview Theatre.
Slickly edited, the trailer is on par with Hollywood standards. Speaking
on the occasion, producer Suresh had this to say: The Tamil original
version is still running to packed houses and breaking records all over.
According to trade reports, Vallarasu has broken all records of Tamil
films released in the last 25 years. Captain Vijayakanth has surpassed
the collection records of his own mega block buster Captain Prabhakar.
We hope to repeat the success in Telugu too. The dialogues are contemporary
in nature, inspired by the current political scenario. Actor-dubbing artiste
Ravishankar made his debut as the dialogue writer and earned the appreciation
of everybody involved in the project for his powerful writing of the dialogues
matching the power-packed portrayal of Vijayakanth. Our mentor, RB Chowdary,
who has seen the first copy, has a word of praise for the unit. We plan
to release the movie in July.
P Vasu, the veteran director, donned the greae paint for the first time
and played the main villain, while Mukesh Rishi, Mansoor Ali Khan and
Raghuvaran are the other baddies.
Devayani and Ambica are in the cast. Sivaganesh wrote the three songs
composed by Deva. N. Maharajan directed this edge of the seat action film
with a message from his own story and screenplay for producer Trax
Suresh.
Chamundi
Malashri as supercop
THE dubbing for the Telugu version of the Kannada-Telugu bilingual, Chamundi
commenced with a puja on June 18 at Kodandapani Audio Lab, Chennai. The
Telugu version is produced by Pratap Reddy while the Kannada movie is
produced by Ramu.
Action queen Malashri plays a super cop while Khushboo is cast as a lawyer.
Both fight for justice in their own professions. Says producer Pratap
Reddy, Malashri is back to films after a two year sabbatical. She
is in her best in the fight sequences which remind one of the movies of
Jackie Chan. There are in all four fight sequences choreographed on par
with Hollywood actioners by Ram Shetty and Thriller Manju.
Like in English movies, we too havent picturised any running-around-tree
kind of song sequences. There are four songs including the title song.
Among the other three songs, one is a glam number. The two hour forty
minute movie is all set to entertain the audience by the end of July.
Prakash Raj plays a typical role along side Chandra Mohan and Rami Reddy.
Sri Ramakrishna has written the dialogue, Hamsalekha has composed the
music and Sai Kumar edits the movie directed by A Mohan Gandhi. The film
is made under the banner of Golden Movie Makers by Pratap Reddy.
TAMIL
Pennin Manathe Thottu
Sarath Kumar-Prabhu Deva teamed
Ezhil, after the sucess of Thullatha Manam Thullum, now directs Pennin
Manathe Thottu with Prabhu Deva and Jaya Seal in the lead. The film deals
about a love affair between two medical college students. Sarath Kumar
plays big brother to Prabhu Deva.
A scene was picturised where Sarath Kumar, seated in a car, sees Prabhu
Deva fighting with co-students on the streets. He interferes and bashes
up the assailants, and then beats up Prabhu Deva, too, for beng a street
rowdy. At this point the bystanders tell Sarath, that Prabhu Deva had
interfered on behalf of the junior students, who were being ragged by
seniors. The girls were being molested in the name of ragging, before
Prabhu Deva intervened. Sarath realises his mistake and makes it up with
his younger brother.
Cinematography by Manikantan and music by SA Rajkumar are other credits.
Ezhil says the film will project Prabhu Deva as an action hero and change
his dance and comic hero tag. Roja Combines is the banner.
