attempts suicide
Producer Sudhakar Bokade who made a big name for himself
in the 90s, attempted suicide by consuming an overdose
of sleeping pills. He was rushed to the Leelavati Hospital
and was released after timely treatment.
Kaho Naa... goes silver
Rakesh Roshan and Film Krafts blockbuster Kaho Naa...
Pyar Hai enters its 25th jubilee week in 80 cinemas across
the country. Starring Hrithik Roshan and Amisha Patel, the
film has music by Rajesh Roshan.
Papa The Great on July 28
Gulshan Kumars Papa The Great, a Super Cassettes
presentation directed by K Bhagyaraj, will be released on
July 28. The film starring Kishan Kumar and Naghma has music
by Nikhil-Vinay.
Creative Eye launches next
Creative Eye is now launching another mythological series,
Jai Jai Shree Ganesh from July 10 at Film City. Art director
Ratnakar Phadke has erected sets depicting swarglok and
brahmlok at Film City. Directed by Dheeraj Kumar, the serial
has script by Darshan Laad and Vikas Kapoor and music by
Sharang Dev.
Deham, first sci-fi complete
Deham (Body), in English and Hindi will be the first
futuristic sci-fi film, set in 2020, declared Govind Nihalani
who has completed the film. Funded by Ford Foundation, the
film is based on an award-winning English play, Harvest
by Manjula Padmanabham. The film which has only a 100-minute
running time, stars Kitu Gidwani, Joy Sengupta, Ali Khan,
Surekha Sikri, Mohan Kapoor, Sahila Thatte and Saloni Mehta.

Rajendra Malone
Rajendra Malone, the veteran cinematographer, who made headlines
recently due to his pathetic financial and physical condition,
finally died in Mumbai last week. The cinematographer who
worked in some of the biggest films in 60s and 70s
is survived by his daughter, Mridula.
Walter Matthau
Actor Walter Matthau, who rose to stardom playing loutish
sports writer Oscar Madison in The Odd Couple, has died
at age 79. He died early morning on Monday, near Los Angeles
and the cause of death was reportedly a heart attack.
He made over 45 films, including The Front Page, The Sunshine
Boys and The Bad News Bears. He won the academy award for
best supporting actor for Billy Wilders 1966 comedy
The Fortune Cookie.
