




Waheeda had aspirations of becoming a doctor but that wish remained unfulfilled and she eventually ventured into acting.
Waheeda made her debut on the silver screen in a telugu film ‘Jaisimha’ in 1955.
She made her debut in Bollywood in ‘CID’ in 1956. Waheeda landed the role when she was spotted by Guru Dutt in a song. After the success of this movie her, Waheeda’s career sky rocketed. At this point Waheeda got romantically involved with Guru Dutt but continued to work together and made great master pieces like ‘Kaagaz Ke Phool’, ‘Chaudhvin Ka Chand’ and ‘Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam’. The stress of thr relationship caught on and Guru Dutt died on 10th October, 1964 due to overdose of sleeping pills and alocohol.
In 1974, Waheeda married Kamaljeet and moved to Bangalore. She currently lives in Bandra, Bombay where she moved after her husband died due to a prolonged illness.
After her appearenca in ‘Lamhe’ in 1991, she retired from the film industry for 12 years. Recently, Waheeda has made a comeback in the film industry by taking on roles of elderly mother and grandmother in films like ‘ Om Jai Jagadish’, ‘Water’, ‘Rang De Basanti’ and ‘Delhi 6’.
