Born on 2nd November 1965 Shah Rukh Khan is widely recognized as the ‘badshah’ of Bollywood. He was brought up in Delhi where he went to St. Columbas School and was awarded the ‘Sword of Honour’ there for outstanding performance in studies and sports. He grew up with his mother, father and elder sister. He completed his graduation from Hansraj College in Delhi.

He was among the earliest to switch from television to films. Before coming to films he was known for his roles in serials Circus and Fauji.

He married Gauri before he joined films; they have two children – Aryan and Suhana.

His name means ‘face of the king’ and his status is that of Bollywood’s king. He has won a huge number of awards and nominations and was even awarded the Padma Shri in 2005.

Known for his close association with Yash Raj and Dharma Productions, Shah Rukh also has his own production company called Red Chillies with friends Aziz Mirza and Juhi Chawla.

Shah Rukh made his on screen debut with Deewana in 1992. He was one of the few people who in the early days of their career took up roles with negative shades in Darr, Baazigar and Anjaam. However, he grew famous with his lover boy image in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge which turned out to be a super hit, he further cemented this image with Dil To Paagal Hai and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, both of which were also huge hits.

Although he is known to have turned down offers of what would be considered off beat cinema, the ‘offbeat’ films in which he has acted have made a mark these include Swades and the more recent Chak De India.
