Born to superstars Nargis and Sunil Dutt on 29th July 1959, he lost his mother to cancer a few days before he made his Bollywood debut with the movie ‘Rocky’ in 1981. However, by that time he was addicted to drugs and some time after that Sunil Dutt sent him to US for rehab.
His first wife Richa was separated from him when she was diagnosed with cancer, Sanjay has a daughter with her, named Trishala who studies Forensics in US. His second wife Rhea Pillai was married to him for three years but they divorced. He recently created a flutter by his sudden marriage to Manyata, after which, her alleged ex-husband filed a case against the couple claiming he was still married to Manyata.
But the biggest troublemaker for him still remains the TADA case linking him to the 1993 Mumbai blasts for which he recently spent some time in jail too.
Despite all this he has steadily built his film career. He overcame his addiction and gave hits like Sadak and Saajan in 1991. Although he has had many hits, he is best known for his ‘goonda’ act in films like Vaastav (1999) and the bhai-gets-converted act in the two Munnabhai films – Munnabhai MBBS (2003) and Lage Raho Munnabhi(2006).
He has also launched a production house with friend Sanjay Gupta called White Feather Films.
