The big break for Bobby Deol came with his role as a leading man in ‘Barsaat’ directed by Rajkumar Santoshi. This directorial movie of Bobby Deol was produced by 'Vijayta Films', for which he also bagged the prestigious Filmfare award for the Best Debut role. The movie was the sixth highest grosser at the box office earnings in the year 1995. Twinkle Khanna, daughter of Rajesh Khanna paired alongside Bobby Deol in ‘Barsaat’.
After a small hiatus of about an year in 1996, Bobby Deol returned with his new venture ‘Gupt: The Hidden Truth’, a murder mystery which released on July 4, 1997. This movie became a big factor in the career of Bobby since it turned out to be one of the biggest hits of that year. But, his subsequent venture ‘Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya’ which came next year did not do well commercially.
Bobby Deol, in 1998, had two releases – ‘Kareeb’ and ‘Soldier’. ‘Kareeb’, by Vidhu Vinod Chpra was romantic film, though it flopped commercially. Whereas, ‘Soldier’ directed by Abbas Burmawalla & Mustan Burmawalla proved out to be a big hit giving a firm place to Deol in Bollywood.
