
As a child
star, she was the Daisy Irani of Malayalam and Tamil films. She made history
with her ability to draw crowds on her own strength. And by the age of four,
she was such a proficient performer that stories were written with her in
mind. Between 84 and 90, Baby Shalini was a household name in
South India. Then came gawky, awkward adolescence and suddenly she found
that there werent too many good roles for her. Besides, her parents
thought it was time she returned to her studies. However, when Fazil offered
her the heroines role in the Malayalam film, Aniyathi Praavu, and its
Tamil remake, Kaadalikku Maryathai, she readily accepted them. It was Fazil
who had introduced Shalini to films 14 years ago in the much-acclaimed Ente
Maamatti Kuttiamma. The precocious little brat of eight years ago has blossomed
into a confident, bubbly and attractive teenager who is thrilled to bits
