Musical evening for Baburao Patel’s
96th birth anniversary
April 4, 2000, was marked
by programmes of music and dance at the ISKCON auditorium in Juhu, Mumbai,
in comemoration of the 96th birth anniversary of the late Baburao Patel,
a well-known film journalist and director. At this function, which commenced
with the lighting of lamp by music maestro Naushad, Dr NP Hirani, Maharashtras
Minister of State for Cultural Affairs, formally released the audio cassettes
of two films directed by the late Baburao Patel, in the mid-40s, Draupadi
(1944) and Gvalan (1946), in both of which Sushila Rani Patel had played
the title roles, and had also sung the songs.
This cultural evening was held under the auspices of Shiva Sangeetanjali,
the cultural wing of the Sushila Rani Baburao Patel Trust. The programme
commenced with the singing of invocation by Sushila Rani Patel herself,
who was honoured as a classical vocalist by the Maharashtra state government
with a cultural award (Sanskruti Puraskar) last year. The invocation was
followed by vocal recital by Preeti Uttam, music director Uttam Singhs
daughter.
Apart from music maestro Naushad and minister Hirani, other guests of
honour present at the function were veteran actor-director P Jairaj, Ustad
Halim Jaffer Khan, SK Kulkarni, Smt Lalita Lajmi (mother of well-known
director Kalpana Lajmi), music director Uttam Singh, ghazal-singer Mohinderjeet
Singh, Trilok Singh (president of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Sabha) and Sri
Jagjit Singh, ex-principal of Khalsa College.
Two cheques of Rs 5001 each, one from Sushila Rani Patel and the other
from Kishan Sharma, who acted as compere for the show, were presented
to Trilok Singh and Jagjit Singh for being forwarded to the surviving
families of those innocent Sikhs who had been ruthlessly massacred in
Kashmir.

Events’ Musical Show
Hitech Events had organised
a musical show in Mumbai wherein the singing sisters from Ahmedabad Preety-Pinky
performed. Juhi Chawla and Shilpa Shetty who were the chief guests, inaugurated
the event.
Amrish
Puri records a song for Badmash No. 1
Producer Shyam Chatwals Badmash No. 1 was launched on April 12 with
a song recording at Sunny Super Sound, in Mumbai. Tuned by Bappi Lahiri,
the song was sung by Amrish Puri, alongwith Jaspinder Narula, Sapna Awasthi
and Abhijeet. Puri plays the title role in the film directed by Vasu V.N.
and presented by Subir Mukerji. Seen on the occasion in the photo above
are Vasu V.N., Bappi Lahiri, Amrish Puri, Shyam Chatwal, Subir Mukerji
and P.K. Mishra.
Beti
No. 1 music released
Super Cassettes Industries Ltd. released the music of A. Saptrishi Films’
Beti No. 1 on April 10 in Mumbai. Govinda and Rambha star in the film
produced by Raajiv Shah, which has music by Viju Shah. Seen on the occasion
in the photo are Mukesh Desai (CEO, T-Series), a guest, producer Raajiv
Kumar and Mr. Sawla.
