Discovery Communications India ended its deal of supplying two hours of Tamil programming to Vijay TV. Now it plans to have a 24 hour regional language feed, like the one it has in Hindi.
“We have snapped our ties with Vijay TV and have decided on a 24 hour language feed within the next few months. However, we have not yet taken a decision on which language to launch the feed. It could be either Tamil or Telugu to begin with,” Deepak Shourie, Managing Director, Discovery Communications, India said.

This decision is based on the consumer research study conducted by the channel. The study addressed the concern of the consumers about what to watch and when. The new content hired by the Discovery channel from April 2002 has something for every member of the family.
While talking to journalists in New Delhi, Deepak Shourie said, “There was some concern that Discovery channel is only related to wildlife and nature. Since the channel leveraging the Discovery group’s vast interest is everything that interests the human mind, a programming strategy has been drawn up to cater to views of all ages.” The new programmes are on adventure, crime, history, action, romance, wedding and sports. He also informed that the new programmes had been sourced from Discovery’s networks worldwide to ensure that new content has something for each member of the family.
