KBC, JCPK war hots up

Our Bureau
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We had to clear one slot for the kids special since we only have a license to air four times a week. It has nothing to do with when JCPK is on air. We are planning on Sunday because children are more into weekend viewing Yash Khanna, Head, Corporate Communications

The gameshow parody on TV has taken yet another twist with Bade Miyan directly being pitted against Chotte Miyan of Jeeto Chappar Phaad Ke. With TRPs of KBC slipping to a pleataeu and giving way to soaps, Star Plus has decided on yet another move to keep the flagging viewer interest alive. KBC will now be cut down to thrice on weekdays with the fourth episode being telecast on Sunday.

Confirming this, Yash Khanna, head corporate communications said that from May onwards KBC would be telecast thrice on weekdays while the fourth episode was being scheduled for weekend viewing. "We have not definitely decided that as yet, but we are looking at Sunday as our most probable slot," Khanna explained. It appears to be a clear move on the part of Star Plus to eat into the viewership of JCPK for which Sony had taken great precautions not to pit against KBC.

But Khanna vehemently denies that the move had anything to do with this vehemently, "We had to clear one slot for the kids special since we only have a license to air four times a week. It has nothing to do with when JCPK is on air. We are planning on Sunday because children are more into weekend viewing," he said.

He added that KBC might be doing a morning slot. While KBC is preparing itself for the TRP battle, Sony Entertainment Television has not exactly been keeping a silent watch. Promos in print and and on telly telling viewers to stay glued to Sony from Monday to Thursday 9pm to 10 pm--the same time that KBC goes on air and get a chance to be on the hotseat is clearly a move to get the viewers on their side. Agrees Nigam, "the war is on and I want viewers to watch my channel."

Rekha Nigam, speaking on the Star Plus plan to air KBC in the weekend said that while she was not the person to comment on this, pointed out that the "evidence spoke for itself."
