Who to watch out for at the 73rd Academy Awards scheduled for March 25 at LA’s Shrine Auditorium


*Julie Andrews will make her sixth appearance at the Oscars this year as presenter. She won one of the coveted statuettes for her sparkling
performance in the evergreen favourite, Mary Poppins. Thirty-seven years later Andrews will be seen in another Disney film, The Princess Diaries.



*Two Julias, Julia Stiles and Julia Roberts, are on the list of presenters too. This will be Stiles first appearance at the Academy Awards and Roberts’ second. The Pretty Woman is also one of the hottest contenders for the Best Actress Award for her straight-from-the-heart performance in Erin Brokovich.

*Angelina Jolie, last year’s winner for Best Supporting Actress for Girl Interrupted, will be on stage again this year. This time though she will be a first-time presenter. Last year’s Best Actress (Boys Don’t Cry), Hilary Swank has also confirmed that she will be presenting one of the coveted statuettes.

*Another Oscar winner, Nicholas Cage who won an Oscar Gold for Best actor for his soul-stirring performance in Leaving Las Vegas, will be making his sixth appearance at the Academy Awards. The suave and stylish actor will be seen on stage again presenting one of the much-coveted trophies to a lucky winner.

*Sir Anthony Hopkins will make his seventh appearance at the Academy Awards this year as a presenter. The very versatile actor has one of the coveted statuettes gracing his living room. He won an Oscar in 1991 for a spine-chilling performances in the unforgettable chiller-thriller The Silence of the Lambs

*Catherine Zeta-Jones, the wife of actor Michael Douglas, is getting ready to make her first appearance at the Academy Awards as a trophy presenter. The stunner is guaranteed to stop traffic. Catherine is the star of Traffic that is one of the hottest contenders for the Best Film and the Best Director awards.

*Kevin Spacey is a familiar name at the Oscars. He has already grabbed the Best Supporting Actor Award for The Usual Suspects in 1995. Last year he was also on the honours list for the Best Actor award he won for American Beauty. This will be his third appearance as a presenter.

 

*Jennifer Lopez, the Latino singer-actress, will be one of the star attractions at the A cademy Awards this year. She will be a presenter. Lopez’s new album, J. Lo is already number one on the charts. Her just-released feature film, The Wedding Planner has also grabbed the number one charts.

*Steve Martin will be the emcee this year. This will be his eighth Oscar appearance and his first as host. The actor/writer has never been nominated for an Oscar gold. Billy Crystal, a favourite Oscar emcee in recent years, will be too busy this year wrapping up his new film, America’s Sweethearts to make time for the Academy Awards.
