Steep
fall in collections
Box-office collections all over India seem to be going from
bad to worse, making it impossible for exhibitors to survive.
Cricket matches and exams have multiplied the misery of the
exhibitors, not to speak of rampant cable piracy for which
neither the state governments nor the film industry have taken
adequate remedial measures. Nandu Bohra, distributor and exhibitor,
says collections are not likely to improve till May.
The only ray of immediate hope now is the release of the much-delayed
Chori Chori Chupke Chupke. The big film would not have been
released but for Santosh Singh Jains appointment as
court receiver. According to Santosh Singh Jain, over three
hundred prints of the film will be in operation. The overseas
rights have already fetched Rs 3.5 crore, and prints have
been delivered.
Other films due for release this week are Ruparani Ramkali,
House of Haunted Hill (dubbed), Kaun Banega Crorepati -- Bhoot
Banglay Ke Andhar and Vatsyayana Kamsutra.
