New
releases
After a dismal performance during 2000 in the aftermath of
the super cyclone (only six films were released during the
year), the new year has generated brighter hopes for Ollywood
with two releases in the new year. Gare Sindur Dhare Luha,
based on a popular novel by celebrated novelist Bibhuti Pattanaik,
produced by Nagen Sahoo and directed by veteran filmmaker
Govind Tej, is drawing good audience all over the state. A
love triangle, the film is expected to be a box-office hit.
Upcoming actress Anu Choudhury has given an impressive performance
in the lead role.
The other film, Sindur Nuhe Khela Ghar is produced by Swarnalata
Dash and directed by another ace filmmaker Rabi Kinngi. The
film with a starcast is also reported to be doing well in
the theatres where it has been released.
Festival of films on performing arts
The fifth festival of films on performing and visual arts
organised by the capital based institution Art Vision founded
by the city based Italian Odissi dancer Illena Citarasti,
was held at the RRL auditorium in Orissa recently. Believed
to be the only festival of its kind in the country, the three-day
programme was inaugurated by actress Kitu Gidwani. The package
of films screened in the festival were Vanaprastham by Shaji
N Karun, Bamboo Flute by Kumar Shahani, Rasikapriya and Lokapriya
by Arun Khopkar, Kalamandalam Gopi by Adoor Gopalakrishnan,
Nargis by Priya Dutt and The Shamin of Perpang by Mainak Trivedi.
