TV JURY

RAMESH TALWAR :
(Chairperson) A veteran of the Indian Peoples Theatre Association (IPTA), Ramesh Talwar’s name is synonymous with top quality entertainment. As a director, his mastery over theatre and films is more than evident in such elegantly mounted films like Doosra Aadmi, Basera and Duniya and plays like Dr Mukta and Ma Retire Hoti Hai. The irrepressible director has taken Indian theatre to foreign shores in a way never done before. His plays, starring the likes of Jaya Bachchan, now have their opening shows abroad, before coming home to an eagerly waiting, ever-growing audience.

KUNDAN SHAH:

The very name reminds you of the two most outstanding serials on Indian television - Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi and Nukkad. Both, aired on Doordarshan, created history with their nationwide popularity in the pre-satellite TV era and are still considered landmarks in serial-making. He has carved a niche for himself on the big screen too, with films like Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron, Kabhi Haan Kabhi Na, Hum To Mohabbat Karega and Kya Kehna.

SUPRIYA PATHAK:

Coming from a family of distinguished theatre personalities, Supriya’s presence has always provided a touch of elegance to serials as well as films. She is still remembered for her performances in serials like Idhar Udhar (in which she co-starred sister, Ratna Pathak Shah) and Mohandas BA LLB (in which she played the lead with her real-life hubby, Pankaj Kapur, who also directed the serial) and in films like Bazaar and Mirch Masala (in which the ’villain’ was her brother-in-law, Naseeruddin Shah).

DEVENDRA PEM:

In a single master-stroke, the young man has the entire theatre and TV industry sitting up to take notice. There are few in the entertainment industry who have not seen or do not know about All The Best, the Marathi play directed by Devendra. This high class comedy has drawn the kind of crowds that would make a filmmaker drool. And this is no mean achievement when one competes with over 50 TV channels and the Internet. Not to speak of movies and star-studded live concerts.

VIJAY ARORA:

He won the gold medal in acting when he graduated from FTII in 1971. Arora, since then has done about 100 films and innumerable serials. Starting his career with Zaroorat Arora went on to act in films like Yaadon Ki Baraat, Kadambari and Jeena Tere Naam among others. He achieved fame on the small screen with his role as Meghnath Inderjit in the epic serial Ramayan directed by Ramanand Sagar. Besides acting, Arora has also set up his own software house which produces ad films and corporate films. His serial Ek Tara Bole made for children was an award-winner. He’s made films on implementation of ISO 9000 standards and eco-friendly textiles which were well appreciated. Right now, the actor can be seen in two serials Lakeerein and Talaash. He’s also acting in Jaana Na Dil Se Door being directed by Vijay Anand.
