Screen - The Business of entertainment

Sudharani settles in Bangalore
Actress Sudharani, who bid good-bye to films halfheartedly after her marriage to a US citizen, has finally come back to Bangalore. The love and affection of the homeland is not available anywhere in the world, Sudha disclosed on the muhurat day of Chandanada Chiguru.

This is not the first come back film for her after returning from the US. On a vacation last time, she had acted in the Kannada film Naanenu Madlilla. "I am bored with the materialistic life in America. My husband is also planning to settle down in Bangalore. I have not seen anything extra ordinary in the US. In my five year stay there, I observed that we Indians are not using our opportunities fully," said Sudha.

"Basically,’ she continued, "I like to live with a lot of people around. My house in Malleswaram, Bangalore was everything for me. After marriage, I went with my husband who is an anaesthetist in a famous hospital in the USA. There I got bored. During these five-years, I used to visit India twice a year and enjoy the lost happiness. Now I am tired and thus decided to return. I was living in Arizona and I noticed that the people of the US are so concerned about their individuality. There is more detachment than attachment. It is a mechanical life.

Whereas in my home in Malleswaram, even for a simple function there used to be at least 20 people around and I have grown up that way. Now that I am back in Bangalore I am happy. I am looking for meaningful roles also," says Sudharani. "Of course, I am in no hurry. My role in the children’s film Chandanada Chiguru is like my real life. A sheer coincidence, though. I had heard the story from director Abdul Rehman Pasha some time back. In the film, I am of the opinion that there is no place like India. Hero Kumar Govind is opposed to my ideology as he wants to make money and is interested in reaping the benefits of outside countries."

Sudharani’s latest film Sparsha is directed by Sunilkumar Desai. She also has two more offers; one opposite Devraj, while the hero for the other film is not yet finalised. Sudharani is not interested in having a parallel career on the small screen as she believes that the big screen has not lost its magic yet.

Diwali releases delayed
due to shortage of raw material
Tamil films that were due for release during Diwali were delayed because labs in Chennai did not have enough raw material for prints because of the demand for prints of Mission Kashmir and Mohabbatein from Mumbai. Also the dealer of raw materials was raided by IT officials due to which he could not provide extra stock or release the money for fresh purchase from the international market. Films like the Kamal Hassan-starrer Thenali, Vanavil starring Arjun and Vijay-starrer Priyamanvallay could manage to release because they were completed well in advance and the money was earlier given to the lab for printing while those films which usually get cleared at the last moment were delayed. Kannugu Kannagake starring Murali, Karthik-starrer Seenu and Meena’s Palayathu Amman got a late release while the release of Prabhu and Prasanth’s films were postponed.
