DIWALI TAKES

Screen - The Business of entertainment

THREE BOONS FOR THE
ASKING?

We had some of stars, aspirants to the movie big time,
most of them, answering one question for us, this Diwali:
If SCREEN were their fairy godmother and offered them
three boons, what would they ask?...0.

Aishwarya Rai
PEACE FOR ALL!

What can I ask for myself? If given a chance, I would ask the fairy godmother to make this world a happy place. Even at the Miss World pageant, all I asked for was peace and happiness for the people of India. Poverty is one thing that displeases me. I would love if everyone has enough money to make a daily living. Also this world should be free of communal hatred and there should be bhaichara all over. Peace will make this world a better place to live in and with all the problems over, India as well as other countries can live in harmony.

Kiron Kher
GIVE PEACE A CHANCE

I wish for total peace in the entire world. Next on my list would be that there is total accountability in the world, for what every one does, or should do, whether it’s the electricity people, the BMC guys or the telephone men. And last, I’d would wish there was no illness at all on earth.

Renuka Shahane
I HAVE EVERYTHING I WANT

NAME my three wishes? Now, that’s a difficult one, because, frankly, I have everything I want. I can’t think of anything more to ask for. But, let’s see, I’d ask the fairy godmother to completely erase hatred from the world. Secondly, I’d ask her to ban noisy crackers that are burst every Diwali. It should be a festival of lights only with beautiful deeyas and candles. Sparklers, too, I don’t mind, because they add to the beauty. I also like rockets that create colourful stars and circles in the sky.

Personally, I have only one wish - that I’m able to write my feature film fast. Though I have been working on the idea for a long time I haven’t been able to actually pen it down, owing to laziness. This Diwali I am going to be at home. I have taken an off from shootings during the week, so, I hope to prepare a lot of sweets and even catch up on visiting friends.

Varsha Usgoankar
AN AARTI FOR HUBBY DEAREST

I wish to have a clean, pollution-free environment, you see there is a lot of noise and smoke all around during Diwali.
I wish people would invest money a little more thoughtfully, probably in better things like charity and people’s welfare, instead of squandering it all on gambling (which goes on in the name of Laxmi puja, when you exchange Laxmi).
I wish people became more aware of the need for cleaner surroundings. They just burst crackers, messing up the streets and compounds. Diwali ought to be a time for cleanliness.

This Diwali happens to be my first after marriage. I want to celebrate it the best possible way, yes, even do an aarti for my husband, who is a north Indian. I also plan to perform Laxmi Puja with my in-laws and have a grand time.

FOR A DREAM HOLIDAY

FOR my three wishes, I’d request the fairy godmother to roll them all into one: to allow me to go on the grand, dream holiday I’ve been saving up for with my two sons and wife. Yes, I’d like it to last into eternity.

Alka Yagnik
LOOKING OUT FOR DAD

MY wish this Diwali would be : To have my Dad brought home to me, once more. I lost my father sometime back, you know, and I yearn to have him back with me again.
To have a voice like Lata Mangeshkar’s.
To inhabit a world where peace reigns supreme.
Diwali, for me, means a lot of time spent with friends at functions. I celebrate it with loads of crackers and deeyas. I only hope parents take care of their children better, and keep them away from playing with fire and dangerous crackers.

Archana Puran Singh
EXTERMINATE POLITICIANS
MY first wish would be for all politicians to simply disappear, disappear with a capital D. Next, I’d like
the environment to go back some two hundred years, to the time when people breathed fresh air and drank clean water.
Lastly, I’d ask the fairy godmother to reserve pain and suffering only for adults and spare the little ones.

Shekhar Suman
AN EMPEROR WANNA BE

THE first boon I’d ask for is that my entire family becomes immortal. Second, I’d want all the good people to be alive a long time and the bad ones to
simply perish. Third, I’d like to become the emperor of the world, and own all the good people.

Ayesha Jhulka
FOR A STRESS-FREE LIFE

WELL, the three wishes I’d want for myself are:
That I be able to stay close to my family.
That I’d have a peaceful and stress-free existence.
And last but not the least, that I’d have a flourishing, work-filled career.

Paresh Rawal
ONE WIFE INTO ETERNITY

I would wish for the same people, the same atmosphere, yes, even the same wife to share my life with, year after year after year. These are my three wishes.

Rahul Bhatt
VISIT ME DAILY, GODMOTHER
THIS Diwali is a great one for me. I’ve signed Umesh Mehra’s Mohabbat Hain and am also doing Revenge -The Ghaav. So my dream of becoming a film actor is finally coming true. Also, my dad is flying down from Kashmir, so Diwali is going to be a family affair. As
for the three boons, I’d ask for more such boons on daily basis. I’d ask that my first film becomes a superhit. I’ll also ask that people become less manipulative.
