Four big releases, and no hit
NOBODY seems to have learnt any lessons regarding the danger of having too many simultaneous releases in one week. It affects the box-office collections of all the films, as has been proved in the past. But neither the producers nor the distributors seem to be aware of the danger. Or perhaps it is the ego factor involved, when each producer hopes the other producers would delay their releases. As many as four big films were released this week, and predictably, none of them has fetched bumper collections.

Shikari, which stars Govinda, Karisma Kapoor and Tabu, D Rama Naidu’s Aaghaaz starring Sunil Shetty and Sushmita Sen, Mahesh Manjrekar’s Astitva, starring Tabu and Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar, starring Manoj Bajpai and Tabu have not even registered 90 per cent collections in any territory. The first day collections of Shikari stood at 85 per cent, Aaghaaz at 79 per cent, Astitva at 75 per cent and Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar at 49 per cent in Mumbai.

Dhai Akshar Prem Ke

The has not done too well at the box-office even in its first week. In Mumbai it registered 70 per cent, 42 per cent in Ahmedabad, 63 per cent in Pune, 61 per cent in Delhi, 75 per cent in Lucknow, 50 per cent each at Bhopal and Indore and 44 per cent in Jaipur.

Aaj Ka Ravan

The film is a miserable flop. It registered 29 per cent in the first week in Mumbai, 28 per cent in Delhi and elsewhere the figures have not been disclosed as yet.

Dacait

The film has been a disaster for its distributors, as it collected a mere 8 per cent in the first week in Mumbai.

Jwala Daku
Its first week collections in Mumbai were 22 per cent.

Fiza
Its fourth week collections in Mumbai were 66 per cent, 57 per cent in Pune and 24 per cent in Lucknow.

Mission Impossible
In the second week, the film collected 58 per cent in Mumbai, 57 per cent in Delhi, 52 per cent in Ahmedabad, 47 per cent in Allahabad, and 31 per cent in Nagpur.

This Week

Due for release this Friday are Jis Desh Mein Ganga Rehta Hai, starring Govinda and Rinke Khanna, Lalla Joda, X-Men (dub) and Miss Bambola (dubbed).
